North Carolina Hard Wheat for Breads
Lindley Mills, Inc. has been working with several North Carolina organic farmers, Kenny and Ben Haines, Billy Carter and others, to test hard red winter wheat varieties bred to adapt to North Carolina's climate. We are now three years into the project and continue to be pleased with its success. The 100% organic hard red winter wheat variety has produced the yields the farmers were looking for and the protein quality the bakers desire. Consumers are enthusiastic about purchasing locally grown, North Carolina artisan breads.
The Organic NC Bread Flour is available in limited quantities with more acreage planned for next year.
